Mall of America takes Thanksgiving off

Mall of America, the nation's largest shopping center, is making a bold move this holiday season.  The mall will be closed on Thanksgiving Day this year.
Black Friday has long been the official kick-off to the holiday shopping season, but in recent years, Thanksgiving Day has become an increasingly popular day to get a head start on shopping.
Mall of America has been open on Thanksgiving since 2012, but executives say they're giving the day back to employees this year so that they can spend time with their families.
About 1,200 mall employees will have guaranteed time off.
